Albanian Mission Trip

The Albanian mission is an educational evangelism mission for Health Care Professionals including Physicians, Dentists, Nurses, Physical Therapists and others.

Albanian Health Fund, a group that developed from CMDA Members, has been active in this mission for over 30 years. The goals are to develop relationships that lead to Christ and to nurture Christian students and Healthcare professionals in Albania.

The general picture of the mission itself is to arrive in Tirana on a Saturday, recover, worship and host a banquet for Albanian Christian students and doctors on Sunday, work within our individual areas of expertise at the national medical school on Monday through Wednesday. These days are also used to mentor the CMDA students there (BSKSH).

Thursday, we leave for a beach hotel at the seaside city of Duress, where we host about 150 students, about 2/3 non Christian, for three days of clinical workshops and major talks that lead to Christ followed by small group discussions.

The bottom line is individual relationships that bring the lost to Christ or nurture young Christian students. It is amazing to see all that the Lord has done over these 3 decades.

The usual Memphis mission partners are Dr. Greg Chandler, Dr. Jeff Harris, and Dr. Al Weir.

Catherine Cowles RN from Memphis leads the nursing mission. (many more from Memphis have been part of the team over the years).

Spouses have often joined and even older children. There is plenty of work for all, including ministry to the Roma in Tirana. Healthcare students would be incredibly welcomed  by the students there.

Other participants are from all over the country, with the team size usually being about 14-20. The group is well established and supported by the University with a number of our members receiving honorary doctorates for their work.

It's an easy, fun mission with good accommodations and good food—unlike the early years.

Everyone supports themselves financially but some scholarship money is available.

The dates of the mission this year are October 31-Nov 8.

Sometimes work-demands require earlier returns or later arrivals.

The cost: Each person buys their own air tickets (typically between $1000 and $1500 dollars).  The estimated cost to cover all in country expenses for the 9-10 days will be $1800. This includes food, hotel, transportation, etc. These estimated costs do not include personal purchases.

If you are interested in joining the mission team, please contact Dr. Al Weir at docweir3@gmal.com or by cell phone at 901-351-3673.
