Guests will also hear about the mission trips that CMDA Memphis will be leading as well as testimonies from students and doctors involved in the ministry.

Guest Speaker:
Mike Chupp, MD, CMDA CEO

Mike Chupp, MD, was born in Frankfort, Indiana and grew up in the suburbs of Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a pre-medical degree in chemistry from Taylor University in 1984, and then graduated as an AOA scholar with an MD degree from Indiana University in 1988. He completed a five-year general surgery residency at Methodist Hospital in 1993.

From 1993 to 2016, Mike fit in nearly seven years of private general surgery practice as a missionary member of the Surgical Department of Southwestern Medical Clinic (a large Christian multi-specialty group) and Lakeland Regional Health System in St. Joseph, Michigan. Mike has been married to Pam for 26 years and they have four children: Steven, Melody, Kayla and Ashley. They recently completed 20 years of service as career missionaries with World Gospel Mission, serving at Tenwek Mission Hospital in Kenya. Mike wore several different leadership hats in Kenya including serving several years as the Assistant Country Director for WGM Kenya during the latter part of his missionary career. He continues to serve on the Friends of Tenwek Board of Trustees as Vice President and one of the founding members of this 501(c)3 organization.

Dr. Chupp testifies that he is an example of how life and ministry don’t always turn out the way you expect. In his words, “During my years of ministry at Tenwek Hospital, my surgical emphasis wasn’t on general surgery, but it was primarily on orthopedic trauma surgery. My work at the hospital also wasn’t what I had planned or expected over most of my career (80 to 90 percent of my time was devoted to administration and leadership for the hospital and WGM Kenya mission leadership). But God’s gifting and preparation and character development in our lives was not wasted. In 2015, Dr. David Stevens and Dr. Gene Rudd asked me to consider joining the executive leadership team at CMDA. Dr. Stevens was the Medical Director at Tenwek when I volunteered there as a medical student in 1988. He had a big influence on me to choose a career as a missionary surgeon there beginning in 1996. It is a great honor and exciting privilege to join the organization that has had the longest and most profound impact on my professional life as a Christian physician. Paul told Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:6-7 to ‘…fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you…’ (NIV 2011). We believe God asked us to join the CMDA team at this time to fan into flame God’s call and the Spirit’s gifts to healthcare professionals who love Jesus first…until He comes back.”
